Breakdown of Newt Gingrich's positions

Breakdown of Newt Gingrich's positions, from Vic in the comments at Ace's

This ought to be good!

Yesterday I said I would do a daily wrap up of the candidates one each day in the order of the PPP poll which had just been published. However, in doing the first one I found that White Paper page from the Club For Growth which aided immensely in the portion dealing with "small government/regulations”. They haven’t finished all the candidates yet and the next candidate up by the PPP poll would be Palin, who hasn’t been done yet. So I am going to modify the order and do it by the List on that page, and hopefully by the time I go through all of the ones they have done so far they will have completed the remainder of the candidates.

So the next candidate will be the old horndog that we all know and love, and who appears to be doing better than expected in the polls, Eye of Newt.

Cap and Trade/AGW

Epic fail, he sat on the couch with Nancy and touted Crap and Tax with her. To me this would be enough by itself for him to get the hell out of the race.

Gun Control

His rhetoric strongly supports the 2nd amendment but I can find no actual legislation that he has been involved with that supports the rhetoric. Since he has been proven to be untrustworthy I am not sure how much credit I could give him for this rhetoric.

Small government in general (spending and regulation)

The Club For Growth gives him strong marks on Tax and Spend. Unfortunately those strong marks are based on his tenure in the House many years ago. They are troubled by his more recent support for liberal candidates and some of the more liberal of GWB’s programs like the medicare drug stuff.

I will also give this quote "And his occasional hostility toward conservatives who do not share his desire to support liberal Republicans or to compromise on matters of principle is worrisome.” I don’t know what they are referring to here but it may be his attacks on the Ryan Plan and "right wing social engineering”. But to me between the support for cap and trade and attacks on the budget cut plan tell me that his past record on small government is no longer applicable. He has sold out.

Socialized Healthcare

As stated above, he supported the drug program of Bush-Kennedy. His current rhetoric strongly opposes Obamacare. Again, it is rhetoric.

Border control/Amnesty

The "On the Issues” site is not much good for this topic and it is not covered by the club for growth stuff. However, a Bing search (easily done) gives multiple hits for speeches and interviews (rhetoric) recently where he "reaches out” to Hispanics with reform ideas of immigration (sound familiar?). Basically he has gone squish/McCain on immigration while denying that it is amnesty (they all hate that label). Again this is rhetoric as immigration laws were not a hot topic when he was in congress. But with his rhetoric on the wrong side now it doesn’t matter.

Abortion

On this one, both past and present he has always been pro-life. But his personal life kills him with the socialcon crown anyway.

So in summary I don't even know why he is in the race. He is toast because he has managed to piss off everyone and he can't even claim he is reaching out to independents (liberals). They will NEVER vote for him anyway.
