The first of the series, chronologically.
Candidate on the issues a new daily review going through them in the order of that PPP poll.
Each day I will go through one of the top tier candidates and how they stand on top issues concerning Morons. Of the issues I have chosen they are:
1. Cap and Trade/AGW
2. Gun Control
3. Small government in general (spending and regulation)
4. Socialized Healthcare
5. Border control/Amnesty
6. Abortion (not a big issue for me but it is for others)
Where available, each of these issues will be examined against their actual record. If they have no record it will be judged on rhetoric with a qualifier as to whether or not they are dependable and trustworthy. Note also that "electability†is not one of the above issues.
I will start with Romney
Cap & Trade
His web site currently says he is totally against it and he "unsure†of the facts in AGW. But checking his record as governor he was for it before he was against it. He has flip-flopped. http://tinyurl.com/4x24a8z
Gun Control
He said he supports the 2nd amendment and the assault weapons ban. That statement is not compatible. The 2nd amendment does not say "may not be infringed except for ugly weaponsâ€.
Small Government
The Club for Growth gives him a mixed record for tax and spend. However, the real kicker is Romneycare. Although he didn’t push it he approved it and then took credit for it. This was a massive increase in the size of government and State spending.
Socialized healthcare
Utter fail
Border Control
His web site says he is against amnesty and is for border control. So what is his past record? Well, in 2005 he was all for McCain’s Amnesty plan. SO this is another flip-flop.
Abortion
While governor he was all for right to chose, now he is right to life. Another flip-flop.
So in summary, out of the 6 major conservative issues he has flip-flopped on 3, total fail on 2, and at best mixed on one. Note that most of these updates are from the "On The Issues†site which tracks a lot of this shit down.
